Food has the power to bring people together, even during these times. Over the last three weeks, we have served over 1,000 people in need at Taste Community Restaurant. Some are our neighbors who work at the hospital, many are families seeking healthy food to meet dietary needs, some are our volunteers who have recently been laid off, and many are our regulars who depend on us for food.
This is only possible because of our generous individual donors who have given during this time. 19 individuals and families challenged our community to give through Matching March! And many more stepped up to meet the challenge that has ensured we can meet the needs of our community. Thank you all!
Dining at Taste Community Restaurant is different than a traditional restaurant. One key difference is our community table: a long single table with ten seats. It is an invitation to all to meet someone new and assurance that no one dines alone. And while we are not able to share stories over the community table at this time, we can still connect over food. Those in need and those wanting to help have connected nearly 70,000 times at Taste Community Restaurant, one delicious meal at a time.
If you depend on us for food, one meal says, ‘I am important’.
If you dine with us regularly, one meal says, ‘I can make a difference’.
If you volunteer with us, one meal says, ‘I care’.
Community is an important part of who we are; and connecting with people over food is what we do. During this time, let’s let the food do the talking.
During this health crisis, you can ensure someone feels important, make a difference, and let people know you care by purchasing Taste Project Meal Tokens online today. Meal tokens work like gift cards in our pay-what-you-can model. You can designate them for those in need now, or you can use them at Taste we reopen! And when you purchase a meal token now, our individual matching funders will provide an additional meal to someone in need during this crisis.
It’s important that we come together in new ways during this time. What will your meal say?
About Taste Project
Taste Project is a 501(c)3 non-profit established to feed, educate, and serve our community so they may “…taste and see the Lord is good.” Psalm 34:8. We believe everyone should have access to healthy nutritional food. Our vision is to see our community become the solution to the challenges our community faces as it relates to hunger. Our first project, Taste Community Restaurant at 1200 South Main Street in Fort Worth, focuses on healthy, quality meals made from fresh ingredients. Our menu has no prices. This is a give and take concept. We ask guests to do one of the following: 1) pay what you can afford, 2) pay what you would typically pay, or 3) pay what you would typically pay, plus a little extra. To learn more, visit us at www.tasteproject.org or find us on Facebook.
